Seaside Wedding Inspiration, Kittery, Maine

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

It’s easy to day dream about sunny summer weddings and celebrations in the middle of Maine winters but sometimes a cold day on the beach towards the end of winter is the prefect backdrop for something fabulous! Inspired by a single image that Brea McDonald had been holding onto Brea, Sara O’Brien and I came together to create a romantic, melancholy and moody scene depicting a setting that seemed as if it was washed onto shore. It was a true collaboration and half the fun was sitting around my dining room table with Brea and Sara developing our design direction! The collection of found objets, vintage treasures, barn board table top over ivory burlap, oh so fantastic invites, place cards, and vow booklets  by Sara, soft and romantic flowers accented by seaweed, and a gorgeous dress from Occasions Bridal of Portsmouth, NH all came together on the perfect grey -blue day on the beach.

Beautiful Bridal Shower in York, Maine

Monday, February 21st, 2011

I love the tradition of bridal showers as it brings together a bride’s closest women in her life in a spirit of love, friendship, family and shared experiences.  And really aren’t some of the best times you’ve had been when it’s just you and your favorite girls!? When Sam from Gus & Ruby Letterpress asked me to create the flowers for her dearest friend and business partner Whitney’s bridal shower I was of course honored and excited! The luncheon party was at the chic, modern and super cool Blue Sky on York Beach, Maine. The color palate was a soft and pretty pale pink and peach which came to life in the flowers: peonies, garden roses, stock, astilbe and the sweetest wild roses that I found overflowing on the side of the road! I had been collecting some old white china and glass ware with gold accents which were the perfect vases to create vignettes on each table. The vintage vibe of the flower design along with gold mercury glass votive holders worked  wonderfully against the modern, funky atmosphere of Blue Sky. Sam included fantastic details including adorable pink spun sugar nests with egg shaped cookies from Cookie Creatives by Jennifer at each seat. Each one was in a clear box accented with the perfect peach toned velvet ribbon. Special thanks to Emilie Sommer for the photos…fantastic photos as always! Stay tuned for coverage of Whitney’s beautiful summer wedding!

Boothbay Harbor, Maine Wedding- A perfect day on the coast!

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Boothbay Harbor, Maine is one of the quintessential coastal Maine backdrops for a perfect summer wedding. Anyone marrying along the coast dreams of blue waters, sunny skies and balmy nights.  Laura and Eric’s dreams came true for their wedding celebration this past summer. A short boat ride from Boothbay Harbor is Squirrel Island where Laura’s family has been summering for generations, her mom and dad grew up next to each other in the summertime! The ceremony was on a perfect beach surrounded by Laura and Eric’s nearest and dearest with cocktails following on the Danforth’s lawn overlooking the island of Squirrel and the surrounding waters. The wedding crowd then boarded boats to Boothbay for the party to continue at the Newagen Seaside Inn. The setting was a dream…the last light of the day made the Sperry tent shine while the full moon rose over the trees. Classic seaside blues with hints of orange were the color palate with special details and decorations displayed through out the tents. Laura’s mom Janet was a crafter after my heart and her boundless energy and creativity were so inspiring! There were so many fantastic images captured by Geneve Hoffman that it was hard not to include them all!

I LOVED creating Laura’s flowers! Classic seaside with the added modern pop of tangerine orange…and the sparkly flip flops are the perfect wedding shoe for a seaside party!

It was a flip flop kind of day and the fans definitely came in handy.

Laura’s nephew (the cutest ring bearer ever!) was more interested in his truck than the ceremony – boys!

All aboard! Laura and Eric and their wedding party took the special Nellie G back to Boothbay after gathering all “Squirrels” for a group photo.

Could the day be any prettier!? The Newagen is such an amazing setting and the Sperry tents were the cherry on the top!

Details, details, details…sand dollar escort cards, more pops of tangerine in the centerpieces and table numbers, the best cake I’ve ever tasted and a gorgeous custom engagement portrait guest book by Geneve.

Did I already mention the full moon?!

The night ended with plenty of dancing, the Squirrel tradition of serenading the bride and of course bowling and late night noshing in the Pine Room at Newagen.

Congratulations Laura and Eric! It was truly an honor and pleasure to be a part of your celebration! Wishing you many more beautiful days!
