Sebasco Harbor Resort Wedding

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

The coast of Maine is one of the most perfect backdrops for weddings. One of the great parts of my job is that I get to explore our coastline and find myself in places I maybe never would have. In September of 2009 I was fortunate enough to provide wedding flowers for a ceremony at Ft. Popham which is such a cool spot !  The architecture of the old fort with the water all around is so unique and dramatic! The reception followed at the lovely  Sebasco Harbor Resort which is another picture perfect location with the harbor waters and rocky coast line all around. The bride Liz was very creative; she had a color palate of green, purple and white and wanted flowers that were contemporary yet still reflected the natural beauty of the idyllic settings of her wedding celebration. I had a fantastic time taking her vision and running with it and I love the results! Enjoy and be inspired!

Many thanks to the super talented Jessica Weiser of Fidelio Photo for making my work look so good!

Nell & Dan, Newagen Seaside Inn, Southport Island, Maine

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

I adore being part of weddings at the Newagen on Southport Island, Maine!  It is such a special place and a perfect backdrop for fantastic Maine seaside celebrations. Nell and Dan were such an adorable, mellow and fun loving couple and it was my pleasure to create lovely flowers and be the day of coordinator for their wedding. And it is always a joy to work with Jason and his fantastic staff at the Newagen, the always awesome Brian Wedge & Malia, and what better tent than a Sperry! Adore the extra special star tent that was used for a hang out spot!!!

nell&Dan ceremony

A fog settled in creating a dreamy backdrop for the ceremony which included a custom white birch arbor, lovely flowers in mason jars hanging off the chair ends and white tossing petals to celebrate Nell and Dan’s marriage. I adore this perfect photo of them as they walk down the aisle !

Nell bouquet

Nell’s classic, white bridal bouquet…even though it was the end of July I was able to get my hands on perfect white peonies!

Nell&Dan maids

Nell’s bridal party were alot of fun! LOVED the different style dresses, so chic…and the coral roses and green hydrangeas are fantastic pops of color against the slate blue!

Nell&Dan ceremony details

Nell of course had the perfect ring bearers! Too cute! Small mason jars hanging off the chair ends were a nice ceremony detail. And what beautiful bride in a beautiful dress wouldn’t want the quintessential Maine coastline framing her photos?!

Nell&Dan recpetionLovely  table settings complete with simple and elegant arrangements of white hydrangea, green bells of ireland and coral roses and salvia; great napkin wraps made from wrapping paper and table numbers were photos of numbers. Nell and Dan’s first dance was so sweet..and the twirl factor on that dress was a 10!

Nell&Dan eveningWhat a setting! Before you knew it the party was rocking and  Nell and her girls took control of the stage..more cowbell! No celebration is complete at the Newagen without a post party of bowling, pizza and beer in the Pine Room!

Congratulations Nell & Dan!!!!

And bridal shower perfection with pink and white flowers and gold accents on The Sweetest Occasion! Loved collaborating with Sam at Gus & Ruby Letterpress to help create the fantastic florals for her best friend (and business partner) Whitney’s celebration at Blue Sky in York, Maine. Captured perfectly (as always!) by Emilie Sommer.

Fall foliage in Maine

Monday, October 18th, 2010

The Beautiful Days wedding season is complete and before I gear up for the fast approaching holidays it’s time to sit back and take in the  gorgeous colors and textures of fall. Always collecting, I keep my eye out for the first sign of orange bittersweet vines, the perfect gourds and pumpkins to be put on display at Zach’s farm stand and the the last bits of color and interest from my garden. This fall I decorated the front of the house with a fantastic assortment of pumpkins, vines, and  gourds with some of my favorite variegated grasses and some bright lights swiss chard. And the lantern shapes of the green tomatillos are perfection paired with ferns that are turning a golden brown and the last little sunflowers. Make sure to take some time on one of these gorgeous fall days to collect some seasonal color and texture for your house!

Maine Wedding Inspiration – Snug Harbor Farm

Friday, September 17th, 2010

I love exploring, hunting, gathering and being inspired by the many special places and people in Maine. One unique setting is Snug Harbor Farm in Kennebunk, Maine , a nursery  that houses an eclectic mix of stunning topiaries, garden ornaments and perfect finds for the home and garden. I  have fantasized about how perfect a wedding celebration would be in the greenhouses! With the blessing of the gracious and talented owner Tony Elliot I was able to create a celebration setting in one of the greenhouses last spring! The super talented photographer Heidi Lynne of White Loft Studio in Newburyport loves Snug Harbor as much as I do and together we put together a photo shoot that was a breath of fresh air! We gathered some of the best wedding vendors in Maine and New Hampshire and the results were fantastic! Photos are coming soon – in the meantime Lynne Valerie of VideoDesign Films captured the shoot wonderfully! Enjoy…and be inspired!!!

I can’t say enough about all the fabulous and talented vendors that helped this shoot be such a success!

Monday, June 7th, 2010

The Beautiful Days wedding season officially started this past weekend and what a fantastic beginning!!! After predictions and preparations for thunderstorms, rain and hail we ended up with a beautiful clear sky for a lush and romantic ceremony at the Camden Public Library followed by a perfect celebration at the fresh and fabulous Camden Harbour Inn. David Murray shot the wedding so I’ll save the details and whole story to pair with his sure to be stunning shots. For now take a sneak peek at some of the romantic and wild floral arrangements we created.

Seaside Photo Shoot

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Back in February super talented photographer Brea McDonald contacted me about collaborating on a photo shoot. I of course jumped at the chance to work with her! She had a photo for inspiration that was a gorgeous, moody range of romantic blues and we started brainstorming from there. Sara O’Brian the lovely and amazingly inspired custom watercolor invitation and  paper notions creator of Griffin-vites was part of the party too. Between the three of us we came up with the romantic yet melancholy story of a mermaid waiting for her sea captain to arrive for their wedding celebration. The scene was set on the beach where the table was made up of shipwrecked items that floated to the shore. Vintage silver, antique glasses and china, found objects, simple flowers accented with seaweed and a driftwood table top were just some of the elements that helped create an amazing vignette. The fantastic photos from Brea are coming soon. For now you can see the process of the design, set up and the shoot captured so wonderfully on film by Meg Simone. Special thanks to Ashley at Occasions Bridal for the stunning dress!

York Maine Wedding Expo

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

A few weekends ago I was part of the Greater York Chamber of Commerce’s annual Wedding Expo. A lovely event for brides getting married in Southern Maine. I am always amazed at how many people flock to this area to tie the knot! It was alot of fun and a great excuse to play with flowers in the middle of winter!

I am LOVING the mussel shells with the hydrangeas, succulents and anemones! Perfect seaside colors with a contemporary twist! A few other lovely seaside blues and whites but a bit softer and romantic. The red amaryllis and red roses weren’t coming together until I added the yellow kangaroo paws and billy balls – HOT! I saw the pink protea and had to have it…fantastic combinations with the deep purple and pink mini callas, fluffy pink roses, jasmine vine, fiddle heads and dark burgundy ti leaf  wraps. The classic white parrot tulips with ferns and hyacinth are given a vintage feel by arranging in a silver pitcher I’ve had for ages and the wonderful green and white bouquet that complements it is so fresh and sweet. And finally the butter yellow arrangement was inspired by a perfect little pear!

Extra special thanks to Geneve Hoffman for the great photos!!

Merry everything!

Christmas is my favorite holiday! I plan menus, look forward to gatherings of friends and family and deck the halls. I am so pleased with the decorations from this year! Some gold and green, a little glitter, some gorgeous plants and alot of candles….

Some of my favorites…my glitter deer family and little birds hidden throughout the house, the gorgeous succulents, creamy poinsettias and rosemary topiaries, glowing, gold votives, our beautiful tree cut on a sunny winter morning just down the road, modern paper garlands and gorgeous candle lanterns made from fabulous paper from the fantastic Portsmouth shop  Gus & Ruby , handmade wrapping paper by Wyatt, simple yet special gold ornaments scattered everywhere, lovely little green and spiky gourds, making my favorite treat – Whoopee Pies (with some crushed candy cane for good measure!), “The Nutcracker Suite”, “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and “James Brown Christmas Collection” playing all day everyday, the ivory burlap runner on my dining table, a warm fireplace, a pre christmas trip to the farmers market to stock up, my kitchen overflowing with homemade sweets and savories….but I truly get the most joy from having all my family around my dinner table for a feast after watching Wyatt and his three cousins eagerly and excitedly open presents… and my heart is full after seeing the huge smile on my husbands face on Christmas morning as he put on his skates to teach our son Wyatt how to skate for the first time on our pond. I think I’ll hold on to that moment and carry it with me into 2010…
