A York Harbor Reading Room Wedding

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

This York Harbor Reading Room wedding in York Harbor, Maine has to be one of my all time favorites! I do love all of my brides and the special celebrations Beautiful Days creates for them but there’s a little more sentiment in this one….I did my first Reading Room wedding over six years ago where our bride to be was working… Anneke wasn’t even 20 but already collecting thoughts and ideas for her wedding so she asked for my business card and held onto it till Mr. Right came along years later ! Collaborating with Anneke and Austin was so much fun and together we created a celebrations that was elegant, romantic and classic with preppy and nautical details.

Anneke and Austin were married at the architecturally perfect First Parish Congregational Church on York Harbor. The church was decorated with lush wreaths 0n the entrance doors, super cute galvanized buckets with blue and white grosgrain ribbon detail on the pew ends and full and beautiful arrangements at the altar.

Anneke’s bouquet was lush and lovely, made up of white and pink peonies and pale pink sweet peas. The perfect pink peonies were cut from my garden!

Fantastic photographer Eric Laurtis captured these happy moments following the ceremony at the historic John Hancock Wharf on the York River. And oh gosh Anneke’s dress from Madeleine’s Daughter was a stunner! She used to work at Madeleine’s Daughter so she knew how to shop for the perfect dress.

Anneke is one of four sisters and you can tell they are best of friends! The wedding party looked very sharp in navy accented with bouquets and boutonnieres of fuchsia pinks.

I created a custom monogrammed bridal bouquet wrap using a piece of Anneke’s grandmother’s wedding gown – love this type of detail and sentiment! And wow do I just have a crush on fuchsia…fabulous against the navy!

Pew end detail from the ceremony and the clean and classic cake from Beach Pea Bakery (on of my favorite bakeries!). I made a custom cake stand that was wrapped in nautical chart of the seacoast area and accented with white nautical rope. (or hmmm, I should  say “I designed” the cake stand since Beautiful Days’ master craftsman and carpenter aka my husband actually made the stand!).

This escort card display is one of the highlights for me…Gus & Ruby Letterpress (who did all of the fabulous print pieces – more coming I promise!) created the nautical flags which we assembled on tall picks to display on the custom compass table topper along with a gorgeous arrangement of hydrangeas, peonies, sweet peas and ranunculus accented with a wrap of nautical chart, ribbon and nautical rope. The compass graphic was used as a select accent in the perfect print pieces from Gus & Ruby. When it was all set up I was head over heals! (The above two shots are by Wendy Freedman)

Oh so pretty cocktail hour and centerpiece flowers were so perfect for this start of the summer celebration. The table numbers of nautical flag symbols by Gus & Ruby were great graphic pops of color and interest. We had 100% linen runners custom made for all the dining tables – a really crisp and classic finishing touch.

More details… beautiful letterpress menus from Gus & Ruby tied on with more of our nautical rope – and yes I now know how to tie a simple sailor’s knot!

The escort card table top on display after the table was moved aside to make room for dancing. The head table had a special and dramatic floral arrangement

And more details!…Drink stirrers and signs and the amazing invitation suite from Gus & Ruby complete with a hand stitched sailcloth belly band and monogrammed pennant flags.

What’s a party with out sparklers!?

The Reading Room has a large, gorgeous fireplace that we made glow with candles, candles and more candles!

If you are dancing into the night under a golden canopy of twinkle lights why not do it in flip flops? (I’ll take pink in size 9 please). The lighting we put up the large hall of the Reading Room added that extra layer of romance and festivity.

Congratulations to you Anneke and Austin! It was truly a special day. Anneke, I am so pleased you held onto that card for so long and you knew I was “the one” before you met “THE ONE!”

This wedding celebration was not only inspired by Anneke’s vision, fabulous taste and attention to detail but was also a collaboration of fantastic wedding professionals who I was so honored to work and create with!

Boothbay Harbor, Maine Wedding- A perfect day on the coast!

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Boothbay Harbor, Maine is one of the quintessential coastal Maine backdrops for a perfect summer wedding. Anyone marrying along the coast dreams of blue waters, sunny skies and balmy nights.  Laura and Eric’s dreams came true for their wedding celebration this past summer. A short boat ride from Boothbay Harbor is Squirrel Island where Laura’s family has been summering for generations, her mom and dad grew up next to each other in the summertime! The ceremony was on a perfect beach surrounded by Laura and Eric’s nearest and dearest with cocktails following on the Danforth’s lawn overlooking the island of Squirrel and the surrounding waters. The wedding crowd then boarded boats to Boothbay for the party to continue at the Newagen Seaside Inn. The setting was a dream…the last light of the day made the Sperry tent shine while the full moon rose over the trees. Classic seaside blues with hints of orange were the color palate with special details and decorations displayed through out the tents. Laura’s mom Janet was a crafter after my heart and her boundless energy and creativity were so inspiring! There were so many fantastic images captured by Geneve Hoffman that it was hard not to include them all!

Laura’s nephew (the cutest ring bearer ever!) was more interested in his truck than the ceremony – boys!

Sebasco Harbor Resort Wedding

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

The coast of Maine is one of the most perfect backdrops for weddings. One of the great parts of my job is that I get to explore our coastline and find myself in places I maybe never would have. In September of 2009 I was fortunate enough to provide wedding flowers for a ceremony at Ft. Popham which is such a cool spot !  The architecture of the old fort with the water all around is so unique and dramatic! The reception followed at the lovely  Sebasco Harbor Resort which is another picture perfect location with the harbor waters and rocky coast line all around. The bride Liz was very creative; she had a color palate of green, purple and white and wanted flowers that were contemporary yet still reflected the natural beauty of the idyllic settings of her wedding celebration. I had a fantastic time taking her vision and running with it and I love the results! Enjoy and be inspired!

Many thanks to the super talented Jessica Weiser of Fidelio Photo for making my work look so good!

Nell & Dan, Newagen Seaside Inn, Southport Island, Maine

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

I adore being part of weddings at the Newagen on Southport Island, Maine!  It is such a special place and a perfect backdrop for fantastic Maine seaside celebrations. Nell and Dan were such an adorable, mellow and fun loving couple and it was my pleasure to create lovely flowers and be the day of coordinator for their wedding. And it is always a joy to work with Jason and his fantastic staff at the Newagen, the always awesome Brian Wedge & Malia, and what better tent than a Sperry! Adore the extra special star tent that was used for a hang out spot!!!

nell&Dan ceremony

A fog settled in creating a dreamy backdrop for the ceremony which included a custom white birch arbor, lovely flowers in mason jars hanging off the chair ends and white tossing petals to celebrate Nell and Dan’s marriage. I adore this perfect photo of them as they walk down the aisle !

Nell bouquet

Nell’s classic, white bridal bouquet…even though it was the end of July I was able to get my hands on perfect white peonies!

Nell&Dan maids

Nell’s bridal party were alot of fun! LOVED the different style dresses, so chic…and the coral roses and green hydrangeas are fantastic pops of color against the slate blue!

Nell&Dan ceremony details

Nell of course had the perfect ring bearers! Too cute! Small mason jars hanging off the chair ends were a nice ceremony detail. And what beautiful bride in a beautiful dress wouldn’t want the quintessential Maine coastline framing her photos?!

Nell&Dan recpetionLovely  table settings complete with simple and elegant arrangements of white hydrangea, green bells of ireland and coral roses and salvia; great napkin wraps made from wrapping paper and table numbers were photos of numbers. Nell and Dan’s first dance was so sweet..and the twirl factor on that dress was a 10!

Nell&Dan eveningWhat a setting! Before you knew it the party was rocking and  Nell and her girls took control of the stage..more cowbell! No celebration is complete at the Newagen without a post party of bowling, pizza and beer in the Pine Room!

Congratulations Nell & Dan!!!!

The Beautiful Days wedding season officially started this past weekend and what a fantastic beginning!!! After predictions and preparations for thunderstorms, rain and hail we ended up with a beautiful clear sky for a lush and romantic ceremony at the Camden Public Library followed by a perfect celebration at the fresh and fabulous Camden Harbour Inn. David Murray shot the wedding so I’ll save the details and whole story to pair with his sure to be stunning shots. For now take a sneak peek at some of the romantic and wild floral arrangements we created.

Hurricane Danny can’t keep a good wedding down!

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Every bride and groom who are planning a coastal Maine wedding need to be prepared for any kind of weather regardless of the season…it could snow in April, sleet in October, rain all day long in June but hurricane in August!? Yes Hurricane Danny was Matt and Ashley’s loud, beligerant, obnoxious, univited guest at their wedding this summer. Some couples would lose it, break into tears that rivaled the rains, call the whole thing off when faced with the fact that mother nature was going to commandeer their perfect seaside summer wedding but NOT Matt and Ashley! Such a cool, fun, fantastic couple..they stayed calm, shrugged their shoulders and knew they were going to have a great celebration no matter what. Thankfully we were at the Newagen Seaside Inn, one of coastal Maine’s most beautiful wedding locations which is staffed by an amazing crew headed by the wonderful Jason Schlosser and we were able to move the party inside instead of the being in the tent by the water. Matt and Ashley did however use the tent for the rehearsal dinner which was decorated with fantastic wasp catcher lanterns provided by the groom’s sister and friends and family were able to take in the gorgeous seaside views. Sure enough the next day the winds blew hard, the rain didn’t stop and the seas were churning. Inside we created a warm ceremony space in the lobby using all the ceremony flowers that were planned for outside and as many lanterns I could get out of the tent before I was blown into the sea. The inn’s dining room was bright and lovely with fresh white linens, white chairs and seasonal flowers from Blooms of Hope against the grey skies outside and the Lisa Love Experience ROCKED the party ! There was a lot of love in that room and the vibe had everyone smiling, dancing and singing all night long…especially Matt and Ashley who I just adore and love that they embraced the fact that despite the weather they were still surrounded by their nearest and dearest and were getting married no matter what the weather! It was truly a beautiful day and I am so honored to have been a part of it.

One very special piece was going to be missed on that day…the quintessential seaside, summer day photos. Ashley had the brilliant idea of having their phenomenal (and all around awesome person!) wedding photographer Brian Wedge come back the following Monday to capture those seaside shots. And they are gorgeous!

Congratulations to Matt and Ashley! Now I know who to party with the next time a hurricane strikes!

Kerri & Patrick, Boothbay Harbor

_DSC6632

The summer has come and gone but Kerri and Patrick’s Boothbay Harbor wedding will always be the perfect summer day to look back on. After a dreary start to the summer the sun shone on Kerri and Pat and their guests for their gorgeous coastal Maine wedding celebration at the Spruce Point Inn. Even if it stormed, this day would have been flawless…Kerri is a natural beauty and sooo sweet and charming and has such wonderful taste and Patrick is one of the most easy going, sweetest grooms I have met! Pink and green prevailed and Kerri, her lovely mother Patti and I  worked together to create an elegant, contemporary, chic and special day with all the trimmings…unique finds from Etsy, the button detail from Kerri’s grandmother’s wedding dress wrapped around her bouquet, the perfect hot pink shoes under a stunning gown, flip flops for tired feet, customized guest book with fantastic engagement portraits (Beth you rock!), pomegranate martinis with a twist, special family photos, fun napkin wraps, limes, limes and more limes, fresh wheat grass, elegant linens and sparklers for a festive end of the night send off. This was beyond a beautiful day and I am so proud and honored to have been a part of Kerri and Patrick’s wedding! Very special thanks to Beth Fitzgerald of Blush Imagery for the stunning photos!
